Scope and Contents

The collection consists of an oral history of Pat Rhine Brown conducted by Tom W. Dillard on March 24, 2010, as well as copies of newspaper clippings regarding Brown and her family, a brochure commemorating the centennial anniversary of Arkansas Mill Supply Co., and a Spring 1984 issue of Neighbors: South Arkansas' Magazine with a cover story on her father, Dr. T.E. Rhine. Topics discussed in the oral history interview include Brown's childhood in Thornton, Arkansas; the career of her father, T. E. Rhine, a country doctor; Brown's time as a student at the University of Arkansas; Brown's husband, Edward Ezell Brown, and children; the Brown family business, Arkansas Mill Supply Co.; and her life and work in Pine Bluff, including as a co-founder of Volunteers in Public Schools (VIPS).

Biographical / Historical

Patricia (Pat) Rhine Brown is the author of T. E. Rhine, M.D.: Recollections of an Arkansas Country Doctor, an account of her father's medical career; a co-founder of the Women's Foundation of Arkansas (WFA) and of Pine Bluff, Arkansas-based non-profit Volunteers in Public Schools (VIPS); and a board member of Arkansas Mill Supply Co., a family business. She was born in 1928 to Thomas E. Rhine and Nanita Rhine; she later married Edward Ezell Brown.
