Biographical / Historical

J. P. (John Pelham) Norwood (1848-1946) and Demma Dooley Norwood (1871-1930) were residents of Sevier County, Arkansas. They were married Jan. 14, 1891. Their children included Stuart Norwood, Buckie Burton Norwood Hopson, Eugenia Norwood Hopson, William Louis Norwood, and Merriman Hal Norwood. J. P. Norwood was the son of Lewis H. and Francis Russey Gilliam Norwood; his siblings included Merriman Lewis Norwood and Henry Lewis (Hal) Norwood, who served as an Arkansas state legislator and as Attorney General of Arkansas. J. P. Norwood was a farmer in Lockesburg, as well as held local political offices in Sevier County.

The Norwood Family Papers were donated to Special Collections by Jamie K. Norwood of Burleson, Texas, on July 9, 2021. Norwood is the great-grandson of J. P. and Demma Norwood.
