Audio cassette tape and transcript of an interview by Bob Coxe of J. William Fulbright. The interview was conducted as part of Coxe's preparation for a documentary on Senator Joseph McCarthy. Topics discussed include McCarthy and his anti-communist efforts; Fulbright's political involvement, particularly on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee; Fulbright's involvement with the formation of the Fulbright Program; and the nuclear arms race.

Biographical / Historical

Bob Coxe was a long-serving radio host and journalist in Atlanta, Georgia. Among other positions, he hosted a program for Atlanta's WGST radio station, and he co-anchored WSB's Atlanta's Morning News beginning in 1993. Coxe retired in 2013.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

The Bob Coxe Interview of J. William Fulbright was donated to Special Collections by Hoyt Purvis of Fayetteville, Arkansas, in October 1983. The materials were sent to Purvis by John J. Erickson of Atlanta, Georgia, in September 1983; Erickson had formerly served as an administrative assistant to Fulbright, and was involved in arranging the interview between Coxe and Fulbright.
