Scope and Content Note

The collection consists of McClintock’s 1945 Lakeside High School commencement program; a 1966 clipping from the Chicot Spectator announcing McClintock's appointment to the faculty of the Arkansas State Teachers College; and a notebook containing trip notes from McClintock's 1959 visit to the USSR.

Biographical Note

Simms McClintock was born July 10, 1927, in Lake Village, Arkansas. He graduated from Lakeside High School in 1945, then served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Following the war, he earned degrees from Hendrix College in 1951 and from Columbia University in 1953. McClintock subsequently taught social studies at Crossett High School in Crossett, Arkansas, and earned the award of Arkansas Teacher of the Year in 1963. In 1966 he joined the faculty of the Arkansas State Teachers College (later the University of Central Arkansas) as a professor of history and political science. That same year he helped to found the Arkansas Model United Nations, a program he coordinated until 1996. McClintock passed away December 5, 2008, in Conway, Arkansas.
