Scope and Content Note

The collection consists of two cartoons and an illustrated song written by Greer. "A Visit to the Candy Shop," an original drawing, is based on his parents' candy shop in Maggie Valley, North Carolina. "A Christmas for Scrooge," a print made from negatives, is based on Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol. "My Dreamland," another original drawing, features both music and lyrics by Greer.

Biographical Note

Dr. Martin Greer, Jr. is an Arkansas-based artist, educator, and candymaker. He earned a master's degree from Northeastern State University and a doctorate from the University of Arkansas. He taught art for 39 years, including 8 years at Kenner Junior High in Fort Smith, Arkansas, and in positions at multiple grade levels in Van Buren, Arkansas, and in North Carolina. With his classes, he made several cartoons into short films, including "The Pied Piper" and "The Lion Hunt."

In addition to art and teaching, he followed in the family business of candymaking, and currently runs Martin Greer's Candies in Gateway, Arkansas.
