Historical Note

The Citizens' Councils of America was the parent organization of a national network of groups in the United States that advocated for white supremacy and for the continuation of racial segregation. It was founded in 1954 as the Citizens' Councils; the name changed in 1956 to the Citizens' Councils of America. The organization was most active in the 1950s-1960s.

Acquisition Information

The Citizens' Councils of America Literature was purchased by Special Collections from the Citizens' Councils of America Literature of Jackson, Mississippi in April 1969.

Separated Material

All 22 items in Series 9, Books, were separated from the manuscript collection and cataloged as part of the University of Arkansas' Main Collection on April 21, 1997.
