Biographical Note

The Greenback Party was a political party that held an anti-monopoly ideology. The party was established in 1874 and was named after the non-gold backed paper money printed by the Union during the Civil War which had a green coloration to its back side. The party platform favored the use of unbacked currency as a way to raise prices for farm goods and make debt easier to repay. The party dissolved in 1889.
