Letter dated at Little Rock, Arkansas June 19, 1913, from Acting Governor J. M. Futrell to Professor L. E. Aylsworth, Lincoln, Nebraska, advising that he is forwarding, under separate cover, copies of the messages delivered to the Arkansas General Assembly by his gubernatorial predecessors, George Washington Donaghey and Joseph Taylor Robinson.

Biographical Note

Junius Marion Futrell was born in Jones Ridge, Green County, Arkansas on August 14, 1870. Futrell attended Arkansas Industrial University from 1892 to 1893 and was a school teacher between 1893 and 1896. He was elected to the Arkansas House of Representatives where he served from 1896 to 1904 and then was elected Circuit Court Clerk from 1906 to 1910.

Futrell was next elected to the Arkansas Senate where he served from 1913 to 1917, serving as Senate President from 1915 to 1917. He had served briefly as acting governor in 1913 after the resignation of Joe T. Robinson. Futrell was admitted to the bar in 1913 and practiced law in Paragould, Arkansas until his appointment to the Second Division of the Second Circuit Court in 1922. The next year he moved to the Twelfth Chancery Circuit.

Futrell served a full term as governor after winning the 1932 election and was reelected in 1934. He served from January 10, 1933 until January 12, 1937. After leaving office, he returned to his law practice. He passed away on June 20, 1955 in Little Rock.
