Scope and Content Note

The papers contain correspondence which includes one letter from Arkansas Governor Charles H. Brough and one letter from Arkansas Senator T.H. Caraway, which are in folder 1. The papers also contain brochures, constitutions, and programs for various civic and University of Arkansas organizations. Folders 2-5 contain items pertaining to civic organizations and folder 6 contains items pertaining to University of Arkansas organizations. The papers also contain brochures about Fayetteville, which are in folder 7. In addition, the papers contain printed items and newspaper clippings pertaining to a proposal to remove the University of Arkansas from Fayetteville. Many of the printed items were printed by the Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce during Yarrington's association with the chamber. The papers also contain two photographs.

Biographical Note

Charles C. Yarrington (1883-1950) was a native of Trenton, Tennessee. He moved to Fayetteville, Arkansas, in 1911, where he opened and operated The Leader and The C.C. Yarrington Company, two clothing stores on the Fayetteville square. In addition to the clothing businesses, Yarrington was active in a number of civic organizations including the Chamber of Commerce and the Masons. He was a charter member of the Fayetteville Kiwanis and helped organize the Boy Scouts of Fayetteville.

The Charles C. Yarrington Papers were donated to Special Collections by the Yarrington Family through Ethel Simpson in 1989.
