Scope and Content Note

Notebook, compiled in 1912 by Arkansas political leader John Herbert Page, listing persons who were members of the Jeff Davis "political machine" in various Arkansas communities, together with correspondence, 1932-1942, exchanged between Page, serving as Arkansas Commissioner of Mines, Manufactures and Agriculture in 1932 and as Chairman of the Arkansas Corporation Commission in 1941, and various Arkansas public officials. Correspondents include Carl Edward Bailey, Junius Marion Futrell, and Joseph Taylor Robinson.

Biographical Note

John Herbert Page was born in Logan County, Kentucky on March 3, 1867. Page worked in newspapers as owner and editor of several publications in Arkansas and Missouri. He was active in the political scene of Arkansas, serving as the mayor of Dardanelle, Arkansas, on several political boards as secretary, and as a political leader in Little Rock. Page passed away in Little Rock, Arkansas on August 12, 1942.
