Biographical Note

The Battle of Prairie Grove was a battle in the American Civil War that occurred on December 7, 1862. On the Union side were generals James G. Blunt and Francis J. Herron with the Confederates led by Thomas C. Hindman. Over 20,000 soldiers met on the battlefield, resulting in over 2,000 casualties. The results of the fighting were inconclusive, but the Confederate retreat led to the establishment of Union control of Northwest Arkansas.
