Letters from Archibald Yell to General M. Hunt, Galveston, Texas. Letters are dated May 20, 1845 (from Washington, DC), June 23, 1845 (from Fayetteville, AR), and October 25, 1845 (from Jefferson City, MO), and pertain to the annexation of Texas and Yell's plans for land speculation there. Positive photocopies.

Biographical Note

Archibald Yell was U. S. Representative of Arkansas' at-large district from 1845-1846 and the second governor of Arkansas from 1840-1844. According to his headstone, he was born in North Carolina on August 9, 1797 and died in Coahuila, Mexico at the Battle of Buena Vista on February 23, 1847.

The Archibald Yell Papers were donated to Special Collections, University of Arkansas Libraries in 1986 by the Texas State Archives of Austin, Texas.
