Biographical Note
The Harmonial Vegetarian Society was a communal living experiment with a focus on a strict vegetarian lifestyle and shared property. The society existed for four years and was the only utopian commune of the nineteenth-century in Arkansas. The society was based out of Harmony Springs, Benton County, Arkansas and was started by James E. Spencer.
