Positive photocopies of letters were donated to Special Collections by James T. Smith, M. D., Paris, Arkansas, 8 July 1986. The original letters are owned by the donor of the photocopies.
The material consists of seven letters written by Arthur M. Smith, from Arkansas Industrial University, Fayetteville, Arkansas, to his mother, Mrs. M. J. Smith.

Biographical Note
Arthur McDanel (not McDaniel) Smith was a student at Arkansas Industrial University 1880-1885 (from Class A of the Preparatory School to his junior year). He later became a doctor and practiced in Paris, Arkansas, for some thirty years. With his brother, John James Smith, he established the Paris Hospital. He died in 1930. James T. Smith is one of three sons of Arthur M. Smith, all medical doctors.
