Scope and Content Note

76 items. Letters, clippings, and academic transcript pertaining to writer Thyra Samter Winslow, Arkansas-born novelist, short story writer, and scenarist. Materials were collected by Richard Clarence Winegard in preparation of his doctoral dissertation, "Thyra Samter Winslow: A Critical Assessment" (University of Arkansas, 1971).

Most of the letters in Series 1, Correspondence, represent correspondence between Winegard and the several former associates of Mrs. Winslow from whom he sought information about her; Series 2 and 3 are comprised entirely of photoduplicates of printed material.

Biographical Note

Thyra Samter Winslow (1893-1961) was an Arkansas-born novelist, short story writer and scenarist. Her books of short stories include Picture Frames (Knopf, 1923), Show Business (Knopf, 1926), and People Around the Corner (Knopf, 1927).

The Thyra Samter Winslow Miscellaneous Material was collected by Richard Clarence Winegard in research for, and in support of, his unpublished Ph. D. dissertation, "Thyra Samter Winslow; A Critical Assement" (Univ. of Arkansas, 1971), q.v., and was donated to the Special Collections Department by Mr. Winegard, of Fayette, MO, on February, 1971.
