Biographical Note

William McIlroy (1812-1886) was a merchant from North Carolina who founded the McIlroy Bank and Trust Company in Fayetteville, Arkansas. McIlroy notably owned the farm which became the site of Arkansas Industrial College, now the University of Arkansas, Additionally, his bank financed the construction of Old Main.
