Biographical Note

Paul Young (1913-1996) was born in Gilmer, Texas. He graduated from Little Rock Public Schools and Washington University in St. Louis, Mo. After a professional assignment in 1933 as supervising architect at Devil’s Den State Park, Young established his own firm, Paul Young and Associates, in Fayetteville, AR. Young continued to practice 48 years, designing educational, commercial, ecclesiastical and residential buildings in the region these include several projects on and adjacent to the University of Arkansas Fayetteville campus such as fraternities and sororities and the initial School of Law Building.

Extent

17 Linear Feet (18 boxes and 5 tubes)

Arrangement of the Papers

Materials are arranged by type. Drawings are in their original order. These are identified by client name and plan number designated by Young. This numerical order is largely continuous, though there are occasional gaps and projects in tubes are exceptions. Boxes 13 and 14 were donated by Curtis Presley and represent his earliest, almost exclusively residential, work in Arkansas. Box 17 contains cards prepared by Young indexing projects by a system of plan numbers. Similarly, Box 18 contains cards indexing prospective projects alphabetically. Tubes are listed by Project number.

Acquisition Information

The Paul Young Jr. Papers were donated in multiple accessions, the first by Paul Young Jr. on November 8, 1995, the second on November 30th 2006 by Paul Young III of Dallas, Texas. Additional prints were contributed by Curtis Presley of Fayetteville, Ar on May 13th, 2011.
