Scope and Content Note
The collection contains materials related to the life and military service of Robert (Bob) Ridgway Case, Sr., a decorated World War II veteran. The collection includes two journals detailing Case's experiences as an airman and as a prisoner of war in Barth, Germany; programs from performances he viewed as a POW; a cartoon booklet produced by POWs at the camp; a POW benefits brochure; a photobook created for Case's 90th birthday; and a photograph of one of Case's elementary school classes.

Biographical Note
Robert (Bob) Ridgway Case, Sr., was born December 5, 1920, in Mountain View, Arkansas. During World War II, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps as a 2nd Lieutenant, and served as a bombardier. His plane was shot down January 11, 1944, and he was captured and transferred to the Stalag Luft I prisoner of war camp in Barth, Germany, where he remained until Russian troops liberated the camp on May 1, 1945. Case was honored for his service with the Purple Heart, Air Medal, European-North African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with Battle Star, and Distinguished Unit Citation.
Following the war, Case married Elizabeth (Bette) Heaton on November 4, 1945, and began working in the lumber industry in Illinois. In 1953, he and his brother Charles co-founded the Tri County Lumber Company. The Cases sold the company in 1983, and Bob and Bette Case moved to Hot Springs Village, Arkansas. Bob Case passed away in April 2012.
