Marguerite Lyon Essay Book

 Collection
Identifier: MC 2418

Scope and Content Note

Book containing six handwritten essays on Ozark culture and folklife: "Ozark Home Remedies," "Rain or Shine," "What! No Almanac," "Ozark Talk," "Mess O’Greens," and "Ozark Jewels."

Handwritten initials on the inner cover are "TCK." While the essays have been attributed to Marguerite Lyon by the processing archivist, based on correspondence to published works by Lyon, it is unknown if the book itself was compiled by Lyon. "What! No Almanac" was published as Chapter 7 of Lyon's Fresh from the Hills (1945); a revised version of "Ozark Jewels" was published as Chapter 8, "A Slick Chick - and Diamonds" in Lyon's Hurrah for Arkansas!: From Razorbacks to Diamonds (1947).
