Included in the collection is correspondence pertaining to Leo Rainey's activities as a Cooperative Extension Service employee, papers documenting Rainey's activities promoting Ozark crafts and tourism, microfilm of 6 scrapbooks containing publicity materials about the Arkansaw Traveller Folk Theatre, programs, newspaper clippings, photographs, slides, audio tapes, records and film.

Series 4 and 5 audiovisual materials digitized by Media Preserve in July 2018 are available to researchers as .mp3 access copies, as indicated in the collection inventory; Special Collections also holds .wav preservation files.

Biographical Note

Graduate of University of Arkansas, Leo Rainey joined the Cooperative Extension Service University of Arkansas headquartered at Batesville, Arkansas, in September, 1961. As an Area Rural Development Agent and later District Community Development Specialist, he worked with local and governmental leaders to help improve the economic and social conditions of North Central Arkansas region. He helped to organize the Arkansaw Traveller Folk Theatre at Hardy, Arkansas, in 1968 and was the Theatre's Executive Director from 1983 until its closure in 1990.
