Scope and Content Note
Audiovisual sources include Betacam videocassettes, Reel to Reel audiotapes, and Type C video recordings containing interviews and other source materials about The Fulbright Experience in locations such as Brazil, Washington, D.C., UCLA, and New York City. Based on tape labels, interviewees include Senator J. William Fulbright, Andrew Brimmer, Ralph Vogel, Mark Blitz, Richard Arndt, Cassandra Pyle, James Billington, Daniel Moynihan, Putu Wijaya, John Griffin, Marija Gimbutas, Hoyt Purvis, Ray Thornton, Fayga Ostrower, and Afrânio Coutinho. Item titles are derived from video labels. Content has not been verified.

Biographical Note
Historian Steven Alan Channing (1940- ), a 1977 to 1978 U.S. Fulbright-Hays Scholar to Italy, earned his Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In the 1980s, he began work in documentary film and educational television. He taught at Stanford, Duke, and the University of Kentucky and in Genoa, Italy. He also worked as a research fellow at Johns Hopkins. He founded Video Dialog Inc. He has produced award-winning films such as America’s 400th Anniversary, narrated by Andy Griffith, Loyalty on Trial, a film about Constitutional history, Alamance, February One: The Story of the Greensboro Four, Durham: A Self-Portrait, and Down Home: Jewish Life in North Carolina. The Fulbright Experience, a commemorative 30-minute film, celebrated the fortieth anniversary of the Fulbright Program in 1986. It was co-produced by the University of Arkansas and Channing/Wise Productions. The executive producer was Hoyt Purvis, the director of the Fulbright Institute of International Relations.

Acquisition Information
The Fulbright Experience Project Materials were donated to the Special Collections Department by Steve Channing in 2007.
A DVD copy of the final documentary was transferred from department files to the collection in March 2019.
