Biographical Note

Albert Webb Bishop was born January 8, 1832, in Alden, New York, to Calvin and Emily Bishop. He earned a B.A. from Yale in 1853, and went on to work as a lawyer, serve in the Union Army during the Civil War, and serve as adjutant-general of Arkansas from 1864-1865. Following the war, he served as register in bankruptcy for Arkansas' second district from 1867-1873, then served as president of Arkansas Industrial University (later the University of Arkansas) from 1873-1875. In 1879, he moved back to New York, where he continued practicing law. Bishop passed away November 29, 1901.
