Biographical Note

Arkansas Motor Freight Lines, Inc. was incorporated December 9, 1935, as a trucking company. In 1942, H.Q. Hamilton was elected President of the company; Roy C. Martin succeeded him as President after Hamilton's death in November 1949. Robert A. Young, Jr., purchased the company in 1951. After a merger with Best Motor Lines in 1957, the company was known as Arkansas-Best Freight System Inc., and its name later changed to ABF Freight. ABF Freight is currently under the umbrella of the ArcBest corporation, headquartered in Fort Smith, Arkansas.
