Biographical Note

Blanche Chenault was born August 24, 1882, to Elijah Nelson Chenault and Mollie Fly Bigham Chenault.

In 1906, she married Dr. Samuel Presley Junkin. Dr. Junkin would go on to be reported as the longest-serving practicing physician in Saline and Pulaski Counties, and he worked for many of those years at the Granite Mountain Hospital, which he founded. The couple had four children, Guy Presley Junkin, Elijah Chenault Junkin, Mary Elizabeth Junkin, and Abner Kirk Junkin.

Blanche Chenault Junkin graduated from Arkansas State Teachers College (now the University of Central Arkansas) and from the University of Chicago. She taught at East End Elementary School in Saline County, and at Fayetteville's Peabody School.

Junkin wrote a daily feature for the Arkansas Democrat, "Through the Year with Emerson," as well as wrote articles for The Pulaskian. A compilation of her "Through the Year with Emerson" pieces were published as a book in 1923. She was active in a number of social and charitable organizations throughout her life, including the Galloway College Club, the Federation of College Clubs, and the Women's Auxiliary to the Pulaski County Medical Society.

Chenault passed away September 2, 1962, and is buried in Little Rock, Arkansas' Primrose Methodist Church Cemetery.
