Scope and Content Note

Journal of agricultural agent Calvin Wallis Bedell. Journal entries begin January 1, 1930, and continue intermittently through November 1930. Topics includes traveling, social events, his work, and weather; locations include Newport, Little Rock, Van Buren, Olyphant, and Malvern, Arkansas. In addition to journal entries, the volume includes insertions of clippings, notes, photograph, correspondence, and ephemera.

Biographical Note

Calvin Wallis "Cap" Bedell was born April 1, 1902, to Emery Wright and Theresa Lewis Bedell. Bedell graduated from the University of Arkansas with a bachelor of science in agriculture in 1930, and went on to work as a county extension agent (including in Madison County and Van Buren County) and as a soil conservationist for the Benton County Soil Conservation District. He married Nell Rea McAlister in April 1931. Bedell passed away March 22, 1978, and is buried in Van Buren, Arkansas' Gracelawn Cemetery.
