Scope and Content Note

The scrapbook was kept by Mildred Tisdale of Hot Springs, Arkansas from 1924-1929, and contains photographs, correspondence, notes and reminiscences, newspaper clippings, programs, and ephemera documenting her life and social activities as a Hot Springs High School student and, later, as an undergraduate at Central College in Conway, Arkansas. Tisdale was involved in local theater and her high school's orchestra; the scrapbook contains cast lists of performances she participated in as well as ticket stubs from events she attended in both Hot Springs and Little Rock at venues like Hot Springs' New Central Theatre.

Friends and family pictured in the scrapbook include Mary Braswell, Edna May Williams, Dorothy Hinderson, Dorothy Pound, Mary Rather, Ruby Slater, Owen Poe, Dodson Dishron, Arch Carpenter, Emma Jean Woodcock, Vera Boston, Virginia Ellis, Mary Moore, Mariam Warren, and Tisdale's future husband, Norton Meek.

Biographical Note

Mildred Sue Tisdale was born to James W. Tisdale and Linnie D. Tisdale on February 24, 1910. She graduated from Hot Springs High School in 1927, and then attended Central College in Conway, Arkansas. On June 1, 1930, she married Norton Meek; the couple had two sons. Meek passed away December 4, 2006, and is buried in Hot Springs' Greenwood Cemetery.
