Scope and Content Note
This collection contains historical research on Fayetteville, Arkansas' St James United Methodist Church, compiled by Lorraine Bashor; historic documents are primarily photocopies and reproductions. Materials include typed and handwritten notes and writings by Bashor, as well as research materials such as articles and photographs; writings by Lodene Deffebaughs, an African American activist, regarding her education at Henderson; ballads written by George Ballard; materials on the Mission School, the first African American school in Fayetteville, Arkansas, which was later called the Henderson School; Two Centuries of Methodism in Arkansas 1800-2000 [book]; and two maps of historic Washington County with labels of churches and a photograph of St James Church from the Court House.

Biographical Note
St James United Methodist Church is a historically black church in Fayetteville, Arkansas, and was first established as the Methodist Episcopal Church of Fayetteville in 1866. In 1867, Reverend W.L. Molloy was appointed as the congregation's first minister. The church building was built in 1883, and is one of the oldest churches in Fayetteville.
