Biographical Note

The Director of Libraries, or Librarian, was responsible for overseeing the operation of the libraries on the University of Arkansas campus. The period covered spans from the original home in Old Main, to the construction of Vol Walker Hall, the first dedicated library building at the university, until the construction of the current main library, Mullins Library. As the university grew, separate libraries for law, fine arts, physics, and chemistry and biochemistry were established and the Director of Libraries became the Dean of Libraries, still responsible for the operation of libraries on campus.
