Scope and Content Note
The collection contains historical and organizational files that comprise the Board of Directors and Executive Committee Meetings from 1976-2017 and Annual Meetings from 1978-2017; extensive correspondence of the executive members of the Association, letters and miscellaneous printed material received from former grantees and general correspondence arranged in alphabetical order. The collection also contains subject files; records concerning the FAA’s Eastern European and AIDS Task Forces; survey materials; and records pertaining to the Association’s local chapters. Furthermore, there is material concerning J. William Fulbright including correspondence, newspaper and magazine articles and other miscellaneous printed material as well as records pertaining to the 40th and 50th Anniversaries of the Fulbright Program. This collection also includes publications such as the Association’s newsletters, promotional material and membership directories in the United States and worldwide; publications by Fulbright Educational Commissions and Foundations; and publications by other organizations and entities such as the United States Information Agency, National Liaison Committee on Foreign Student Admissions, Institute of International Education, American Council on Education, and others. Included also are photographs, four video tapes, and a framed photograph of Senator Fulbright. Digital files in the collection include a booklet compiled by Philip E. Rakita and Nancy Neill featuring biographies of Fulbright Association and Fulbright Academy presidents, as well as documents compiled during their research for the booklet, including a spreadsheet of current and past Board members.

Biographical Note
Established by Fulbright alumni on February 27, 1977 as the Fulbright Association of Alumni of International Education and Cultural Exchange, the Fulbright Association is a national private, nonprofit organization whose membership is composed of former American Fulbright grantees and friends of the Fulbright Program. It was established largely for the purpose of supporting and strengthening that program and helping to continue to increase the worldwide involvement of individuals in educational and scholarly exchange. In April 1987, the Association headquarters, which were housed by Bryn Mawr College, Pennsylvania, moved to Washington D.C.

Acquisition Information
The Fulbright Alumni Association Records were donated to Special Collections Department, University of Arkansas Libraries, in December 2002 by Hoyt Purvis.
Additional materials were donated to Special Collections in 2018 by the Fulbright Association's director, Nancy Neill (Box 20) and by former Fulbright Association director Philip E. Rakita and DeDe Long (Item 1 and additional materials added to Box 20).
Additional materials (Born-digital Folder 1) were donated in July 2020 by the Fulbright Association's archivist, Philip E. Rakita.
