Scope and Content Note

Typescript of reminiscences by Walter R. Roe entitled "A Boys [sic] View of Arkansas City 1899-1913," compiled by C. C. Stuart circa 1960 and edited by Helen Pennington in 2008. The reminiscences begin when Roe's family moved to Arkansas City, Arkansas, in 1899, when Roe was two years old. Topics include the Mississippi River; shipping and boats, particularly the Kate Adams; primary school; local businesses; and the lumber industry, including the Desha Lumber Company.
