Photographs

 Series
Identifier: MC 340 6

Scope and Contents

This series consists of images pertaining to Stone's personal and professional life, as well as images of projects designed by the Stone firm.

Project images have been arranged by project. Within a project file, these are arranged chronologically from design phase, through construction to dedication of the project. Images of individuals involved with a project are also included. Images have been arranged with an alpha-numeric code which includes a project code and a number representing the chronology of the project. These include images of bid drawings, renderings, site plans, master plans, floor plans, models, elevations, sections, construction, exteriors, interiors, and dedication ceremonies. Working within this chronology, images have been arranged from the general to the specific. Of particular interest are photographs by noted architectural photographers Ezra Stoller, Morley Baer, Louis Checkman, and Julius Shulman.

A project image index has been compiled which lists all images of a project. This index is arranged alphabetically by project title and includes prints, negatives, oversize photographs, one-inch slides, and two-inch slides.

For additional information regarding individual projects see also Job Files (Series 2, Subseries 1); Data Forms (Series 2, Subseries 2); Publicity Department Project Files (Series 4, Subseries 5); Brochures (Series 4, Subseries 6); Newspaper and Magazine Articles (Series 5, Subseries 3); and Architectural Drawings (Series 11).

Images of Stone's personal and professional life are also included. These include portraits of Stone and his family, photographs and slides of business and family travels, images of his colleagues and friends, and events in his personal and professional life. Two series of images pertaining to research on American culture, urban planning and aesthetics, "America Unbeautiful" and "The Stirrings of a Renaissance," are also included. These images have been arranged in nine subseries and numbered accordingly. Included are prints, negatives, one-inch and two-inch slides.
