From the Series:

Portraits and snapshots of members of the Smithee-Blore-Ragland families and their friends, and five photographic albums created by Ray Smithee Blore or Lorraine Blore Ragland. Only a few of the photographs were positively marked, and on the basis of those identified images the balance have been titled.

The photographs have been arranged by generational subject, beginning with Annie Eliza Cowgill and James Newton Smithee, followed by their children, their children’s spouses, and their grandchild, Lorraine Blore Ragland. Photographs 139-150 are carte-de-visite style portraits nineteenth-century people who were either acquainted with the Smithee family in Arkansas or the Blore family in Colorado.

Photographs 151-191 are unidentified nineteenth-century images. Of particular interest among these are 151 which could be David O. Dodd, and 152 which could be Annie Eliza Cowgill and her sister and cousin. The original images of 151 and 152 are restricted and have been replaced with 5” x 7” prints. The negatives for these replacement prints are located in Special Collections Negative Box 1) .

Photographs 192-226 are unidentified twentieth-century images. Female subjects have been named according to their marital status at the time of the photograph. Subjects appearing in brackets [ ] have been identified by the processor’s best guess based on internal and external evidence. All of the photographs are mounted on matteboard unless indicated with (U) ’’unmounted. ”

Those photographs marked OV are oversize and have been removed to Special Collections Oversize Box 7, as has photograph album number 1. This album consists of six unmounted leaves with 1890 era snapshots pasted onto the pages. Photograph albums 2-5 have been placed in box 5. Photographs 101 and 102 have been stored with the other over-oversize photographs of the Special Collections Department.
