Scope and Contents

Contains 10 folders of correspondence, campaign material, newsletters, clippings and other material. Correspondence, 1920-1931, concerns Brooks Hays' law practice in Russellville and Little Rock; Brooks Hays' work as Assistant Attorney General for the State of Arkansas; to other work including employment by the Findex Corporation, 1922; to real estate and other financial and business matters; to state politics, including the unsuccessful 1922 Congressional campaign of A. Steele Hays, and to political appointments to state and local offices; to Russellville community concerns, including the city board and library association; to speaking engagements and published articles; to professional society activities, such as local and state Bar Associations; to activities of service organizations , including the Anti-Saloon League of America-Arkansas Department, Little Rock Community Fund, and Pulaski County Tuberculosis Association; to other organizations, including the Lions Club, American Legion, Masons, Bookfellows, University of Arkansas Alumni Association, and to Sigma Chi Fraternity; also concerns Baptist church activities. Correspondence, 1935-1939, concerns Arkansas politics and social work, including a 1935 memorandum to Paul Porter, Assistant Secretary, Dept, of Agriculture, describing conditions in Arkansas; and limited correspondence concerning the work of the National Policy Committee, the Economic Policy Committee, the National Religion and Labor Foundation, the Southern Conference on Human Welfare, and the Urban League of Greater Little Rock. A few items pertain to Brooks Hays' work as Regional Attorney for the Farm Security Administration. Also includes some material relating to Brooks Hays' 1928 Gubernational Campaign.
