Scope and Contents
Contains 106 folders of largely correspondence and other related records, including clippings, political advertisements, and financial records, pertaining to Brooks Hays's candidacy in the Democratic gubernatorial primaries of 1928 and 1930. The correspondence in Folders 1-78, arranged alphabetically by correspondence in Folders 1-78, arranged alphabetically by county, concerns solicitation of support for Brooks Hays in the 1928 campaign. Folders 79-87 contain largely post-election correspondence, together with pledges of support in the 1930 campaign. Folder 88 contains both official and unofficial results of the 1928 primary, arranged alphabetically by county. Other files contain correspondence, invoices, statements, and receipts pertaining to the advertising campaigns for both 1928 and 1930, including statements of expenses and expenditures. Significant correspondents include: Bernie [Smade] Babcock, J[unius] M[arion] Futrell, E[zekiel] C[andler] Gathings, Robert [Allen] Leflar, E[dward] F[itzgerald] McFaddin, Thomas C[hipman] McRae, Fred[eric] M[axfield] Pickens, Heartsill Ragon, James W[illiam] Trimble, and J[ulian] S[eesel] Waterman.

Access Information
Access to business records in Box 19 is restricted; Box 19 is not a separate physical box, but a designation given to folders that are stored in Boxes 93-94. Some items from Series 1, 3, 4, 6, and 8 have also been restricted, and are stored in Boxes 93-96.
