Albert Webb Bishop served as president of the Arkansas Industrial University from 1873-1875. Arkansas Industrial University changed to the name University of Arkansas in 1899.

From the Collection:

Positive prints collected bу authors Reynolds and David Yancey Thomas for use in illustrating their book, History of the University of Arkansas, published in 1910. Most have manuscript notations on verso; some have manuscript notations on recto, or printed labels on recto or verso.

Twenty-one (21) of the photographs used in illustrating Reynolds and Thomas' book were not preserved in the collection, presumably having been returned to lenders or otherwise disposed of by the authors at the time of, or shortly after, publication of the book. These are listed below, with the page numbers on which they appear in the book, but are not included in the inventory of 123 photographs.
