Case Plaque: "Ceremonial Pottery. The Indians who made this pottery lived in Southeastern Arkansas. They were one of many groups of Middle Mississippi Indians who lived from about 1400-1700 A.D. in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, Missouri, and Arkansas."
"Their pottery probably was not intended for everyday use, but was reserved for burial with the dead and other ceremonial purposes.
Some of the best pottery in Eastern North America was made by these Indians."
