Materials consist of correspondence to and from Bales. Of particular note is correspondence between Bales and Albert Einstein. Other notable correspondents include Carl Sagan, Billy James Hargis, Haroldson Lafayette ìH.L.î Hunt, Madalyn Murray OíHair, Herbert Philbrick, Phyllis Schlafly, Dan Smoot, Norman Thomas, and General Edwin Walker. Also included is correspondence between Bales and Arkansas politicians including Dale Alford, Ed Bethune, Dale Bumpers, Orval Faubus, J. William Fulbright, and Wilbur D. Mills. In addition to personal content, a large quantity of correspondence details Balesís opinion on various theological issues. Other correspondence, notably letters to the editor, pertains to controversial issues such as abortion, atheism, communism, divorce, evolution, and homosexuality. Several files include materials on Buddhism, Jehovahís Witnesses, Mormonism, and the Roman Catholic Church. Supporting research materials may be included. Topical correspondence may also be found in Series V-XIII.
